I wish to warmly welcome and invite all Avanti Owners Association International members to make plans to attend the milestone 150th Anniversary of Studebaker and join us in celebration at the AOAI 2002 Avanti Meet to be held in South Bend, IN, June 23-29, 2002.

If you enjoyed the 1997 AOAI Avanti Meet, 2002's will be bigger and better!

We are part of a “joint meet” with the Studebaker Drivers Club and the Antique Studebaker Clubs; we have a common meet hotel, the Marriott Hotel, 123 N. St. Joseph Street in downtown South Bend, IN (Zip Code: 46601).

The special priced block of SDC meet rooms were offered for registration on August 1, 2002. They quickly sold out within a couple of days.

It is my understanding that there are several rooms still available for the standard room rate, call (574) 234-2000 for information and reservations.Note new area code

All AOAI activities will be based at the meet hotel, except for Wednesday‘s Avanti concours cleaning and preparations, pizza and beer party, and Avanti tech seminars that will all be at our 1997 AOAI Meet Hotel, the Jamison Inn, 1404 North Ivy Road, South Bend, Ind., 46637.

I reserved all 49 rooms there for us, and as of August 7, 2001 nearly 80% had been taken, and most, if not all are reserved as of March 2002. You can call the Jamison Inn at: (574) 277-9682 for reservations.

Our meetings, hospitality room, and AOAI meet registration will be at the downtown South Bend, IN, Marriott Hotel.

Once again, there is no “joint registration” between the AOAI and the SDC; your AOAI registration allows you to participate in AOAI events, and to display your Avanti on the concours.

We are also having an “Everything Avanti” Raffle with a complete $750.00 Turner Front Brake Kit as the grand prize, the other prizes will be “Avanti”, but not necessarily “auto-related” as you might think, and include a mini refrigerator, and a brand new Avanti bicycle -- imported direct from New Zealand.
Tickets are $2.00/each, or six tickets for $10.00. The raffle drawing will be during our Thursday night Avanti Awards Banquet; the “Grand Prize Winner” need not be present, but you need to be there to pick out any other prize you may win if your ticket is drawn.

Our meet committee will keep you updated about this meet via the Avanti Magazine, AOAI local chapter newsletters, and the Avanti/AOAI computer website. Make your plans to attend, because “if you snooze, you may lose” for 2002!

This meet I‘m not alone, like in 1997; I have the AOAI Avanti Meet directors from the 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001 meets, among other volunteers, and like Studebaker, for the 2002 AOAI Avanti Meet we plan “to give more than we promise!” We will all be looking forward to seeing you at the Avanti meet in South Bend!
