mtgibby Posted March 30, 2016 Report Share Posted March 30, 2016 All, I was dismayed to learn that all Avantis had undercoating in the wheel wells when new. I really don't like the look of undercoating, and I prefer the clean look of the painted wheel wells. Has anyone restored a car and NOT reapplied the undercoating? Bad idea? Thanks! Gunslinger Posted March 30, 2016 Report Share Posted March 30, 2016 It was used as a sound deadener and a profit-maker for dealerships. Outside of that it had no purpose. Avanti Motors listed it as an option as a sound deadener. When I rebuilt my '70 it was not under coated. It was, however, painted black inside the wheel wells. brad Posted March 30, 2016 Report Share Posted March 30, 2016 If you are going to drive your car, it is there to prevent rocks from making a star crack from the back side, There are lots of alternatives.
