Help clear up number tags on an Avanti please!

Hi everyone. I hope to become a full fledged Avanti Association member and associate with the local and national clubs. I also hope to be an Avanti owner by the end of August this year. A car I'm looking at in California (I'm in Minnesota) appears to have 2 tags on it (63R3477 and 63RQ2461: the first is listed as its number, the second is a picture sent with other photos). Are these build numbers and model numbers respectively, or what? I really appreciate your help before I consider purchasing this car. Thanks, Nort

The first number is the vehicle's serial number...it's a plate mounted on the top of the right side frame rail under the heater blower motor. The second number is the body number and is mounted on the top of the cowl on the right (passenger) side. There's no attempt by Studebaker to have them match.

The serial number on the frame is what you need for registration purposes.

Welcome to the AOAI and the world of Avantis!

Ill bet there are several Studebaker Avantis out there where over the years somebody mistakenly registered the car using the cowl tag body number...in your car's case 63RQ2461.

That number does kind of look like a serial number, and with the actual serial number 'hidden' down on the frame, and usually covered with grime,....who could blame someone for a 'goof' like that?

But Gunslinger is correct....The relevant number, and actual serial number for this particular Studebaker Avanti, is 63R3477.

Welcome to the club!
